I am Mr. Hunt and I teach 7th Grade Life Science. I am a product of the Helena School District attending Rossiter Elementary, CRA and Capital High School. I graduated from Carroll College in 2013. This is my fifth year teaching at CRA. I coach football and track for the Capital High Bruins and also coach track for the CRA Cubs.

April 6th-10th

4th QUARTER! Almost big bad 8th graders, look out! I hope you all had a nice spring break self isolating with your families. Make sure you are checking your student email daily. You should also be checking Teams, Clever, and our team Teacher Pages. Assignments will be assigned on Monday by noon and will be due by Sunday at 8:00 pm for my Life Science class.  I will be updating my gradebook today, so be sure to check PowerSchool to see what your grade in Life Science is for the 3rd quarter as well as what you might be missing for the fourth quarter. Here is the plan for the week of April 6th-10th.

Complete the Pre-Unit Assessment (Amplify “Matter & Energy in Ecosystems” Chapter 1, Lesson 1.1)

  1. Login to Clever & go to Mr. Hunt’s page.
  2. Click on the Amplify link.
  3. Scroll down and click on the “Matter and Energy in Ecosystems” Unit.
  4. Click on “Chapter 1: Photosynthesis.”
  5. Click on “Lesson 1.1: Pre-Unit Assessment.”
  6. Complete all answers to the best of your ability. Eighteen multiple choice questions and two written response questions.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a PRE-Assessment, you are NOT expected to know the answers. Therefore, this will be a COMPLETION GRADE.

–> As long as you give your best effort and complete all questions you will get full credit!:)


  1. Login to Clever & go to Mr. Hunt’s page
  2. Click on the homework link to Swift Fox
  3. The article link is at the top in the green box. The hyperlink to the article is blue.
  4. Read the article from Montana Outdoors & fill out the microsoft forms answer sheet.
  5. Submit once you have completed the form.

This form will be graded out of 25 points.

Friday 3/27/20

Friday! Friday! Friday!

Happy Friday everyone. Remember your Science News For Students article questions are due today by midnight. So far I have about 80/127 submitted, not all are turned in on teams. Remember that you need to return to teams after “submitting” your form so you can “turn in” your assignment on teams. I know this is a hassle but TEAMS and CLEVER are our main platforms for assignments.

Last assignment before spring break. I need to know if you can get on to my CLEVER teacher page (Mr.Hunt – 7th Grade Life Science). This is the platform that you should get into first. From Clever you can open Teams and assignments, and Amplify if we decide to use it. I will try to be posting assignments on Clever and on TEAMS. So, send me a chat or an email to let me know if you can get onto my Clever page. If not I can get you a backup code.


When we return from spring break we will start on ECOLOGY! I will send out a Monday email with the weekly schedule for science. There will be 1-2 assignments per week. You are being graded so make sure to take your time and formulate well thought out answers.

I hope you guys have a good time with your families during spring break! Try to be active during your time off. Of course there is always room for a couple relax days with hours of video games or Netflix but do your best to help around the house and get outside to move.

Good morning crew!

Your COVID-19 Assignment was due on Tuesday the 23rd. Please get this assignment done if you have not already. Here are my results so far:

1st – 21/23 Submitted = Missing 2

2nd – 22/27 Submitted = Missing 5

3rd – 23/25 Submitted = Missing 2

6th – 21/23 Submitted = Missing 2

7th – 19/25 Submitted = Missing 6

I still have many of you that have not TURNED IN your assignment but I DO have your Microsoft Form submitted. If you turned in your assignment you should receive a return from me with feedback and a score. I will be messaging and emailing those of you that have not turned in your assignment.

This assignment is DUE TOMORROW by 11:59 PM

There will be NO work over spring break. The week after we will begin some Ecology – relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings. Hopefully we can get back to our classroom after that week.

That is all I have for now. Remember to email or chat with me if you have any questions. If you are struggling to get onto teams or clever ask me, ask a friend. We are all in this together so we need to help each other out and communicate.

Wednesday 3/25/20

Nice work Life Science students! You are doing a great job with your remote learning so far. Keep up the good work. Try to get a routine down with you school day. Checking emails, checking TEAMS, and working on your assignments.

So far in science class you have:

1)posted your favorite snack to our TEAMS page

2) Completed the COVID-19 RESEARCH TASK assignment on microsoft forms and submitted it

3) Returned to TEAMS to “turn in” your covid assignment (many of you have still not done this part, most of you have)

4) Posted one of your questions from the covid article to our teams page and replied to at least 3 other student questions.

5) Began working on the Science News For Students assignment. This assignment is due on Friday 3/26/20.

Do not be hesitant to send me an email or a chat in TEAMS with your questions. We are all in this together. Keep working hard and staying healthy physically and mentally.

Tuesday 3/24/20

Assignment #1 – COVID-19 RESEARCH TASK – Due Today by 11:59 pm

Make sure after you submit your Microsoft Forms answer sheet you “turn in” the assignment in teams. Again, there will be no document attached in teams when you turn in. I will be transferring these grades into the powerschool gradebook.

Assignment #2 – SCIENCE NEWS FOR STUDENTS – Due Friday by 11:59 pm

When you open the forms page make sure it says your name above article information. There is a link at the top that will open sciencenewsforstudents.org. Here is where you will search for an article that interests you.

You are going to choose one article that interests you. Read the article and fill in the Microsoft Forms answer sheet. After you submit the form, return to teams and “turn in” the assignment.

Monday 3/23/20

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a good weekend. I miss seeing you guys, I hope you all are healthy!

We have survived our first week of online learning!
Assignment Review:
1) SNACK: There are still some of you that have not yet posted your favorite snack to  our Teams page.
2) COVID-19 RESEARCH TASK: Many of you have completed this assignment but did not complete the process by “turning it in” on the Teams page under assignments. There will be no document attached, but I have your work in microsoft forms.
3) POST/COMMENT: Post of of your questions from the Covid article to our teams page. Respond/Reply to at least 3 questions from your classmates.
4) ASSIGNMENT #2: This will be posted tomorrow and will be due on Friday.
I just wanted to fill you in on some details as we move forward:
  • I will not be giving you daily assignments for Life Science. This is a hard time with LOTS of craziness for all of us: lots of helping that needs to be done at home, lots of unknowns, lots of figuring out technology. Mr. Thennis has asked us to keep it simple and not overwhelm you guys. And I agree!! So, as we continue with this online instruction, you’ll only be getting 1-3 assignments/week from me.

  • I will have “office hours” Monday through Friday from 9:00 – 11:00 am and 12:00 – 3 pm.
      • If you’re struggling with something (assignment-wise OR life-wise), or just want to send me a message and hear right back from me, that would be a perfect time to reach me.
  • The BEST way to send me a message is through the “Chat” option in Teams. Email is ok, but I really prefer the way Chat in Teams keeps everything organized and all in one place (see the attached image if you’re not sure how to get a Chat started with me:).

  • I’m going to be VERY protective of our online space in TeamsIf you post a comment or a reply that I don’t understand, I will delete it. If I think it could be possibly interpreted in an inappropriate or mean way, I will delete it.
      • Bottom line: when we are typing things & existing in an online-only space, everything we write/share can be extra hard to interpret. ERROR ON THE SIDE OF KINDNESS, RESPECT, AND BEING APPROPRIATEI will get your parents involved if you can’t abide by these simple rules.

We made it to Friday! Remember, this is new territory and we will figure it out together. Try your best not to stress!


It sounds like TEAMS is working the best with assignments. Make sure when you log into TEAMS you are using your entire email address as your username. This means including the @helenastudents.org. If you have not logged onto TEAMS yet you should really try to get on there and check it out.

Favorite Snack:

So far I have had 96 out of the 124 students respond via TEAMS. If you can not get into TEAMS send me an email with your favorite. FYI there is a TEAMS app you can download on your phone too. I have not done that yet but might play around with it today. If you have, maybe try and contact a friend who has not responded yet.


70/124 students have completed the Covid-19 research task assignment. However, only 30 students have actually “Turned it in”.

On TEAMS under Assignments you should be able to click the turn in button. There will be no work attached with it, but I have your work in microsoft forms. So, if you have completed the assignment all you need to do is click that you turned it in.

Remember to use proper grammar and punctuation with your responses. This is not a text message. This is a school assignment. Take your time! I can see the time you spent on the assignment. Some of you are done in under 10 minutes and some of your answers show the lack of thought. Some others are taking over an hour and your answers are great! We are still trying to learn, not just trying to get our work done as fast as we can. You will have another assignment assigned on Tuesday and that will not be due until the Friday before spring break. Two assignments over these two weeks! Don’t rush through them, take your time coming up with well thought out answers and questions.

We are all trying to get more familiar with the online platform. So, let’s play around with it a little bit.

Just a few reminders: 1. This is a school environment- I will be reading your replies/responses, so school language is required. 🙂  2.  It is easy to read unintended tone into writing.  Be sure to give each other the benefit of the doubt.  3.  Avoid using all CAPS- it makes it feel like someone is shouting at you.  4. To receive full credit, I would like you to post your response and reply to at least 3 other students in our class.  If someone has a reply, interact with a different classmate.  Just like real school, we don’t want anyone to feel left out!  It is okay to reply to more of your friends in class- but 3 is the minimum.
Assignment:  On our TEAMS page, post one question you had about the Washington Post article. Respond to at least 3 classmates before Tuesday as well.

I just want to remind you again. YOU ARE DOING AWESOME!!!! Try to keep a normal schedule and get enough sleep! I hope you guys have a good weekend. Keep those bodies healthy!

Great Job!!!

Life science students! You guys are doing awesome! I am very impressed with all of your answers and question on the COVID-19 assignment. I love seeing all the snack that you guys enjoy. However, I would like to see some more healthy food options 😉

For those of you that have not done your two assignments yet, make sure you get these done.

Remote Learning Schedule

Wildside Team,

We are living during a time that will be in history books. After learning about the Influenza outbreak of 1918, we are well informed on the damage that can be caused by these amazing microorganisms. Thankfully, we are also very well informed and prepared on how to battle these diseases. Plenty of water, well balanced whole foods, and plenty of rest! Take care of your body and your immune system. REALLY IMPORTANT INFO: as a school community we’re trying to make sure that all CRA students are safe and connected during these crazy times. SO, if I haven’t “heard” from you that week, I have to give your name to Mr. Thennis so he can do a check-in and make sure you’re ok.

How do you avoid this?
–> If you do ANY ONE of the following things it counts as “contact,” and I don’t need to get Mr. Thennis involved: add a comment in Teams, turn in your assignment(s), &/or be in touch via email.
If you’re not sure about this or have any questions please send me an email and I’ll be happy to explain more.

My plan for maintaining contact is to post information and lessons to my website and through email communication. We will also be working on Microsoft TEAMS as well as CLEVER. Please be prepared for this to change as teachers and administrators learn new information.
