March 22nd Friday Letter

Happy SPRING BREAK Wild Side Team,

We made it! This year has gone by so quickly, it is hard to believe it will be the fourth and final quarter of school when we get back from break.

This week students continued working on answering short response questions. Students learned more about the Triangle Factory Fire.

After break, we will be in testing mode! Students will be completing the Spring District Writing Assessment as well as the Smarter Balanced Assessments. Please be on the lookout for more information about testing.

As always, please know how honored I am that I get to spend my days with your amazing children. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and most importantly, have a wonderful break!

Next week, students will be using the information they have learned regarding the Triangle Factory to write an informative essay.

Please let me know if you have any fun plans for the break, or if you have any questions, concerns, or comments!

March 6th Wednesday Letter

Happy Wednesday Wild Side Team,

Thank you to all of the parents who were able to make it to parent/teacher conferences. Connecting school and home is a vital part of student success. I love conferences because they give me an opportunity to meet the people who raise such wonderful kids. I have loved my time getting to know all of your families so far this year and am looking forward to the rest of the year together.

This week we had a great Career Fair at Carroll College. A special thanks to Mrs. Anderson for organizing this event and to all the speakers who donated their time! We continued learning about the Triangle Factory Fire and started a historical fiction excerpt from the novel Uprising.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Enjoy the snow!

February 8th Friday Letter

Happy Friday Wild Side Team,

What a cold week! I hope you are all staying warm.

This week students worked on argumentative writing. I am not teaching students how to argue with their parents as from what I recall from my own middle school experience, students are already great at doing that! This will teach students how to make their point in an argument, making sure to present the other side of the argument, as well as their own, only using factual information.

Next week we are going on our SKI TRIP! We will be gone all day on Wednesday the 13th.

Please let me know if you have any comments, questions, or concerns. Have a great weekend!

February 1st Friday Letter

Happy February Wild Side Team,

What a busy week at CRA. Your children spent the week diligently writing and defending their opinions related to The Giver.

Please keep in mind that we will be going on an all-day field trip to Great Divide on February 13th. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s PE teacher.

Have a wonderful weekend and as always let me know if there is anything I can do for you or your child.

Thanks,

Miss Miller

January 25th Friday Letter

Happy Friday Wild Side Team!

What a great first week of the second semester. We finished reading The Giver and I am glad to say that this book has inspired a lot of students to continue reading! Our class tweeted at Lois Lowry (The author of The Giver) on Wednesday and were so excited when she quickly replied to our tweet! It was such a cool experience for us all! Please be sure to ask your child about the book he or she is reading at home, the more people who value reading, the better!

Next week we will be doing a writing assignment related to dystopian literature.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for March 5th and 6th. If you would like to meet with your child’s advisor before these days, please contact that teacher to set up a time!

Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Have a great weekend,

Miss Miller

January 10th Thursday Letter

Happy Thursday Wild Side Team,

We had another great week! This week we have had riveting conversations about The Giver. I love this book and enjoy sharing it with my students because they make me think about ideas they have about the story that I never did while reading this novel. Please ask your child how he or she is liking this book–your children have been very engaged in learning!

Students also took their winter benchmark testing–the STAR Reading test. If you are interested in your child’s progress, please be sure to contact me.

Have a great weekend!
