January 17th Thursday Letter

Happy Thursday Wild Side Team,

Can you believe that the first semester is over? I have had a great first half of the year getting to know your amazing children. I always wonder how I get so lucky every year with my kind, hard-working, students!

Please continue to encourage your children to be the lovely humans that they are every day in my class.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Have a great long weekend,

Miss Miller

January 10th Thursday Letter

Happy Thursday Wild Side Team,

We had another great week! This week we have had riveting conversations about The Giver. I love this book and enjoy sharing it with my students because they make me think about ideas they have about the story that I never did while reading this novel. Please ask your child how he or she is liking this book–your children have been very engaged in learning!

Students also took their winter benchmark testing–the STAR Reading test. If you are interested in your child’s progress, please be sure to contact me.

Have a great weekend!

January 4th Friday Letter

Happy New Year Wild Side Team!

Welcome back to seventh grade English. I hope you all had a rejuvenating winter break. I was happy to relax for a few days but am ready to get back to work!

This week we started reading the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry. We will be discussing important themes throughout the next few weeks and relating the information in this book to other subjects, especially social studies and science.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I was so happy to see your children this week!

Thanks,

Miss Miller

December 21st Friday Letter

Happy Friday and happy winter break Wild Side Team,

I am finding it hard to believe that Christmas is only a few days away, it seems as though this year just started!

Over the break, please encourage your child to read as much as possible. The holidays are a busy time and reading is a great way to relax.

We will see you all back on January 2nd!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Happy holidays!

December 14th Friday Letter

Happy Friday Wild Side Team,

One more week until break! We can make it!

This week students shared the stories they wrote about finding a secret door at CR. These stories were wonderfully presented to the class. Be sure to ask your child to share their story!

Scrooge made an appearance in our classroom this week, no not crabby Miss Miller! We began reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Mrs. Anderson, our counselor, was a guest speaker today. She spoke about technology addiction and the brain research associated with this. Students were really engaged and interested about this topic. Please encourage your child to be mindful about the amount of time they are spending on various types of technology. The holiday season is a great time to unplug!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great weekend!

December 7th Friday Letter

Happy Friday Wild Side Team,

This week students worked hard to use their essay outlines to complete a final draft. We spent two full weeks working on writing these figurative language essays with the hopes that the writing process starts to become more natural for students. Please be sure to ask your child about their essay!

Next week, we will continue writing! We will be working on poetry and writing narrative stories.

Please encourage your child to read as much as possible over the weekend. Students should strive to read for at least twenty minutes every day.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a great weekend!

November 30th Friday Letter

Happy Friday Wild Side Team,

We had a great full week back at school and are now counting down the days to Winter Break! Can you believe we only have three more weeks to go?

This week students started writing figurative language essays. Writing essays is an important part of school and will become more vital in higher grades. Because of this, our first essay-writing process will be very guided so that students are taught the proper way to write and format papers. Please be sure to check in with your child about their progress!

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know! I love hearing from families! Have a great weekend!

November 16th Friday Letter

Happy Friday Wild Side Team,

Thank you to all of you who were able to attend parent/teacher conferences. I had a great time meeting you and visiting about your wonderful children! Please feel free to reach out at any time to schedule a meeting with me, not just during conference time. I believe that home to school communication is a vital part of student success!

This week we continued to discuss figurative language and Mississippi Solo. Next week, we will be working with poetry and having another Cozy Up and Read day!

Due to the short week next week,  I will not be writing a parent letter. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Enjoy your long break!

November 9th Friday Letter

Happy Friday Wild Side Team,

This week students worked with our first story of the year, Mississippi Solo. Students will be reading and answering questions about this excerpt and will write a final paper on this story as a final activity. Be sure to ask your child what the word “puce” means, we are learning a lot of new words in English!

I am looking forward to Parent/Teacher Conferences next week. Having a home to school connection is a vital part of student success. Please do your best to make it to your child’s conference. Contact me if you would like to meet with me, even if I am not your child’s advisor. As always, let me know if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.

Have a lovely weekend!

November 2nd Friday Letter

Happy Friday and end of the first quarter!

This school year is flying by, and we are learning so much!

Students continued to research the Mississippi River this week and turned their work into a Comic Life presentation. We also discussed figurative language and used our online textbook. Students can always access this textbook at home as well by going to https://my.hrw.com/

I hope that you all had a safe and happy Halloween. Thanksgiving is only three weeks away!

Please be on the lookout for information regarding parent/teacher conferences. Having a home-school connection is very important for academic success! I am looking forward to meeting with you!

Be sure to contact me with any comments, questions, or concerns. You should be proud of your children, I know I am!

Thanks,
