Happy Last Week!

Happy last week of 7th Grade English!
WHEW! What a year! Being your teacher has truly been one of the greatest joys of my life. Even though this year did not go the way we all hoped or expected, I am fully confident that each and every one of you will impact this world positively because of the light that you share each day just by being yourselves. Please, whatever you do, remember to always pour out kindness into this world. The progress you all made this year was tremendous, and I am so proud.
This summer I encourage you to find the fire inside of you, the fire that encourages your soul and empowers you to make this world a better place. I want you all to show the world what you can do. If you can’t do this, at least make sure you read¬†ūüôā¬†
I will miss you all! Before your summer starts, please watch this one last video!

Online Learning Update # 16

Happy Monday Wild Side Team!
I can’t believe that I will only be sending out two more emails for the entire school year¬†ūüė≠ This year has been incredibly strange and it doesn’t seem like we should be saying our goodbyes quite yet.¬†
This week’s TO DO LIST:
FINISH ALL OF YOUR SHORT-CONSTRUCTED RESPONSES FOR THE OUTSIDERS. I NEED TO HAVE THESE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BUT NO LATER THAN JUNE 10th AT NOON.
Your¬†NEW ASSIGNMENT¬†for the week is, in my opinion, a fun assignment. This week you need to write a letter to the students who will be in my 7th grade English class next year. This letter is a “How to Survive Miss Miller’s Class” note. Basically in your letter you need to make me sound as mean and scary as possible! Make my class seem like it is impossible to pass! Some of you may have an easy time with this assignment because perhaps you really do think I am mean and scary and that my class is horrible! I like to read these letters to my new students on the first day of school, I read some to you on the first day if you can think back that far!¬†ūüôā¬†
You are welcome to title your letter Dear Victims, Dear 7th Graders, Dear Children Who Should Run For Their Lives Now, whatever you would like, be creative! Give tips on how to make it through the year such as it would benefit kids to do wrist strengthening exercises so their hands don’t fall off whilst completing thousands of short-constructed responses. Possibly you can create an image of what is really behind that secret door in the back of our classroom, is it a real bathroom or a torture chamber? Use your imagination!
At the bottom of the letter, please write:
  1. Your favorite thing about 7th grade and why (Don’t everyone write Miss Miller¬†ūüôā hehe)¬†
  2. What you learned this year (It can be but doesn’t have to be academic, this could be that you learned the importance of kindness and why, that friendships change, to be organized, ect.)

When you are done with this assignment, please just share it to me via email! You can even just email the entire thing to me if that is easier than a word document. I need to have this by June 10th at noon.
Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any comments, questions, or concerns. I miss you all dearly!

Online Learning Update #15

Happy Memorial Day!
School is ALMOST out for summer¬†ūüė≠¬†
ALL OF YOUR WORK IS DUE JUNE 10TH AT THE VERY LATEST!
We are running out of days for you to get your work turned in.¬†If you are struggling with getting homework done, you need to contact me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so we can make a plan to get you caught up. I can’t give you credit if you are not doing anything…¬†

If you have contacted me about taking my class for credit, you still need to do the assignments that I sent to you. These are also due by June 10th. If you are interested in taking my class for credit rather than for a letter grade, you need to contact me as soon as possible. NOTICE THAT I KEEP SAYING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE?? Yes, we are running out of time!

This week we are finishing the novel! Then, you only have¬†one¬†more writing assignment for English (How to Survive Miss Miller’s Class) and you will be done for the year!

Online Learning Update #12

Happy Monday Wild Side Team,
It is with a heavy heart I sent this (long) update knowing that I will not get to see any of your smiling faces in person again this school year! What a weird way to end a year–I have started counting how many times a day I say “this is a strange or weird time…” and let me tell you, it is A LOT! What I do know is that if there ever were a good year to have a global pandemic and for schools to shut down, this would be the year because I have the most absolutely wonderful students (who have wonderful parents) and I know I can count on all of you to do your best, to support each other and me, and to lift everyone up around you. I am thankful for all of you because you are making this difficult time much easier! We only have a few more weeks together and I will be sure to make the most of it!
I have noticed that a lot of you are STILL missing assignments and getting behind. If you keep putting assignments off, more will build up and you will get even more behind! Please communicate with me so I know how I can help make this easier for you!

I am going to be entering grades into the gradebook as missing and as a 0! Do not panic, I will let you turn these in any time before the end of the year for full credit! I am entering grades like this so that you know what you are missing and what needs to be done. Please make sure you are checking PowerSchool and contacting me so that we can get everyone caught up. We only have a little over a month of school left!
This week we are continuing on in The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I realize that this is a lot of work and that online school is overwhelming. I am only going to require you to answer two short-constructed response questions per chapter. You may choose your two! Online Learning Update #10

Happy Monday Wild Side Team,
I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Starting this week, we will be reading a novel as a class. Our new novel is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I realize that some of you have read this novel, but it is always wonderful to read a book more than once! I promise you will pick up more the second, third, or millionth time you read the book. This book is an excellent example of the type of amazing writing that young people are capable of accomplishing. S.E. Hinton was ONLY 15 when she began writing this classic novel.
We will be reading two chapters a week and you will be responsible for answering four short-constructed responses questions per chapter (eight a week). Be prepared to be completing a final project when we finish the novel as well.
