Welcome clipart free clipart images 4Hey there! I am so very excited to get to know all of you this year in science & English. I really enjoy teaching sixth graders. Sixth grade can be an overwhelming, wild, challenging, and awesome experience.  My goal is to help you successfully navigate the transition to middle school, get to know your strengths and needs, and create a positive, engaging, and safe learning environment.

Teaching sixth grade keeps me pretty busy, but in my spare time, I like to walk my dog, Denver, knit, garden, and binge watch Netflix.  I love when I get to hang out with my husband, Tony, and children, Ali, Bailly, Caleb & Emma. With Ali, Bailly, & Caleb I have to Google-hang-out because they are in college.  Emma is a student at Capital High, and I am so happy I have her home for another few years.

Science and English are an awesome combination! In science, we better understand our world and our surroundings. With English, we can better communicate what we wonder and what we know.

English:

  • Sixth grade English will cover grammar, punctuation, types of paragraph and essay writing, and literature analysis.
  • You will be taking notes, practicing concepts, reading, and writing.
  • The first 10 minutes of each day will be used for independent reading, or writing. Be sure to bring a chapter book to read every day. A book project will be due at the end of every quarter.
  • Reading for 15 minutes every day & filling out a monthly READING LOG needs to be completed at home or in advisory.

Science:

  • Sixth grade science is a general overview of the Scientific Method, measurement, earth science, weather, & astronomy.
  • You will be reading materials, taking notes, performing experiments, and participating in class discussions and activities.
  • Come prepared to ask questions, make predictions, make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, and to broaden your horizons.
