C.R. Anderson’s Student Council met at Target and went on a shopping spree and purchased $1,000 worth of toys for the Toys-4-Tots program in December! There were also a half dozen students who volunteered to assist at the Salvation Army for a few hours on the annual ‘distribution day!’ We learned a lot as we helped to stock the toys, namely that the age group that is the most under-represented in the toy end is for the middle school boys/girls. Next year, rather than focusing on ‘tots,’ we will realign our efforts toward middle-school aged students!
Student Council also, in collaboration with the staff at CRA, provided $10 holiday gift cards with a Happy Holidays message to students that the staff had identified as needing a little pick-me-up over the break.
Thanks to Student Council, the front office, and the counseling department, about 50 students (5% of our student body) at CRA who were facing a less-than-perfect break due to family stress or financial hardship were given the opportunity to enjoy a movie with their time!
Student Council is now working hard on an anti-bullying campaign for February. With facilitation
by President Amanda Penley and assistance from the counselors, student council members are putting together a few weekly video segments to be shown in advisor classes – hopefully in February!
